Mum To Be Mother’s Day Gift Guide

IMG_4354It’s the countdown to Mother’s Day, the one day a year when it’s practically legal to demand breakfast in bed, some me-time and tons of cuddles. No we don’t, and shouldn’t, need a ‘Hallmark’ day to tell us how much we love and appreciate our mums, but we also don’t want them to feel left out (and there are plenty of great gift guides listing alternative presents for mums). But what about the mums to be? The mums who are currently suffering achy backs, nausea, growing pains, a reduced diet (and sobriety), surely they deserve a little sign of appreciation too? After all, growing a baby is the first challenge on the road to motherhood that deserves a huge token of appreciation!

So for all the expectant mums to be out there – here’s my top gift guide /massive hint list.

I was recently gifted one of these gorgeous Mexican Bola Necklaces – a piece of jewellery that helps you to bond with your baby during pregnancy. Worn low over bump, as you move soft chimes comfort the unborn child, as will gently shaking the pendant to help baby sleep when s/he’s here. It’s also known as a harmony ball or angel caller. I love this silver one from Not On The High Street – £29, Tales From The Earth or for a more indulgent gift, this sterling silver with rose gold bee charm is super cute, £249 by Blooming Lovely Jewellery

  • Relaxing lavender candle

I just love all their scents, but for expectant ladies, she’ll appreciate the relaxing, warm fragrance of the White Lavender Signature Candle by The White Company, £20

  • Her Changing Bag!

One of the things I quickly realised after having my son is your changing bag is your actual handbag. Yes it needs to hold the essentials, but it also needs to look stylish too. It’s the bit of ‘you’ among all the baby kit. So this time around I lusted over the gorgeous collection from Jem & Bea (from the minute I found out I was pregnant) and finally decided on the Jemima, £265 which I can not wait to start using, it comes with all the items listed below and also in black and tan.

The ideal bag for a mum to be is a backpack, and if she’s expecting her second or opting for a lightweight pram, she might be wanting her hands free or not have a heavy bag hanging from the handle bar – this super trendy Elwood backpack from Tiba + Marl, £130, comes in a range of colours, including new pastels for Spring Summer and look great.

The pregnancy skincare brand everyone’s talking about – and the product that gets the thumbs up from multi-tasking me is the multi use Superstar in a Jar rescue balm. This balm can be used to moisturise and protect dry and cracked skin. Pop it on lips, elbows, hands or use as a massage balm or cleanser. It even claims to tame unwanted frizzy ends or edges to hair, although not tried yet!

With a gift voucher in hand, book her in for a day with the lovely guys at JoJo Maman Bébé and let them treat her to a tailored appointment where she can view the product range, maternity collection and baby essentials – as well as a bra fitting service.  She’ll also receive 15% off in the maternity & nursing range, which she can spend her voucher on, plus a fabulous goody bag! To book her a place click here – I’m also loving this gorgeous spring embroidered maternity peplum blouse from their new collection – £35

  • For the book worm

The rise of the supermum bloggers has also brought a range of hilarious and helpful parenting books. These are just a few currently on my reading list from some of my faves, as well as the classic ‘bible’ all pregnant mothers need on their shelf ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’, £8, Amazon, and the current book every mother must have ‘How to Grow a Baby and Push One Out‘, by Clemmie Hooper, £10, Amazon

  • A pampering treatment

I was recently treated to a gorgeous relaxing, pregnancy massage at the award winning healthspa at Foxhills, Surrey. I’d never had one before, but wow was it amazing. If you think it might not be for her, most health spas offer vouchers – a manicure, head massage, facial, pedicure are all welcome indulgences.

  • The gift of sleep!
Never before has sleep been so high on the agenda, growing a baby is tiring! I have been trying out the super soft, dual purpose Dreamgenii, a pregnancy and feeding pillow, which has been supporting my back and bump while I snooze. £45, JoJo Maman Bébé With the change of life ahead, if she’s also having trouble switching off busy thoughts, how about this award winning Night Time Pillow Spray from the gorgeous Mum and Baby range of products from Bloom & Blossom, £15
  • A mum to be photoshoot
A simple google search or scour of your local area on offer sites such as Wowcher and Groupon are bound to bring up some great deals and packages.
  • Brunch or Afternoon Tea
There’s something about being pregnant and sugar that mums to be can not get enough of, but it’s also the time to stock up on the vitamins, and a scrumptious brunch is the perfect meal to pack in the nutrients as well as a sweet smoothie and pastry bake. Popping up everywhere, The Ivy Brasserie Collection is ticking every meal time box for me right now. Items on their Brunch and Afternoon tea menu start at £8.50 and a full afternoon tea tray is just under £20. Below are shots of our new and local Brasserie in Cobham, which we just love. Enjoy!
  • A Flower Bouquet Subscription
Rather than just on Mothering Sunday, why not send a bouquet a month to mark the next month of her pregnancy. I just love Bloom & Wild bouquets for their quintessentially British country style, bouquets start at £60 for a 3 month subscription.a9a0693b-dd62-4d0d-a319-2f0fce0e7a58

  • A new lipstick
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll no I can’t get enough of my bright lipsticks. I’ve especially found I’ve enjoyed wearing it more during pregnancy. My absolute faves are by MAC, and my colour of choice is Amplified Impressioned, £17.50
  • Magazine Subscription
I love Gurgle Magazine, packed with advice, real stories and laughs. A subscription starts at £14.99 for 6 months or for the fashion and beauty loving mum, you can’t beat Cosmo, 12 issues for just £12
  • Crafty Mum to be
Looking to buy a mindful activity to help her switch off and relax, I love the idea of gifting a cross stitch kit to hang in the nursery. This super cute one is from The Happy Cross Stitcher and allows her to add the essential info at a later date. Not On The High Street also offer some great quirky kits too

  • Slippers!
Is it possible to have a gift guide for mums (and mums to be) without slippers?! I couldn’t resist! These fabulous outdoor slippers are just fabulous and practical, (not a lace in sight), Rowan from Boden, £72

or perhaps these floral print, nautical (actual) slippers from M&S, £15. Well I couldn’t have a gift guide without a shout out to M&S!

To all the mums out there this Mother’s Day – well done, you’re doing amazing! Now if you’re a Mum to be, get hint dropping!
Thanks for reading
