When you wake up on Monday, look at the weather forecast and think…meh! The end of July marks the start of my Summer holiday from work, which I’m taking sporadically over July/August to coincide with the dates my childminder is off. With some lovely days out planned and a long weekend to Cornwall ahead, I was really hoping to get some of my sale bargains and staple summer dresses out the wardrobe this week…sadly not. With averages around 19 degrees, cloudy and rain…my week was looking a touch more exciting than the weather, so here’s a look at my busy, rainy week in outfits.
I had a day off work and tickets to see the amazing Ballenciaga: Shaping Fashion exhibition at the V&A, followed by tea & cake with my friend and fellow blogger The Summer Mama. With walking (and cake) on the cards, flats, stretchy jeans and a bit warm was key. I’d really hoped not see these Chelsea boots until Autumn, but actually they look really cute with tea dresses and ankle grazers, so if this rainy weather carries on all summer these puddle-savers will be staying out! I love these statement Red earrings, they were first found in H&M this Summer and worn by nearly every fashion blogger out there, but as they’re now sold out and I was late to the party, I found on eBay by an international seller.
Return to the office and still grey skies above – so instead the outfit had to shine! I wore my new metallic effect, pleated cami, purchased for just £5 in the sale at H&M, going a bit 80s rock chick, I teamed with faded black ripped jeans and high shine, very pointy and extremely comfortable silver shoes, bought for just £12, earlier this year at Asda!
Another day in the office and a schedule full of meetings, so needed to go a touch smarter. I refuse to wear black tights in the summer, whatever the weather, and actually this dark denim, pinafore dress doesn’t quite look right with them anyway. So bare legs it had to be – with a thick coat of my go-to Dove gradual tan and a white t-shirt underneath, I braved the chill and donned my new block heeled sandals from Dotty P’s. Just a note on the gradual tan – this Dove product is amazing, streak free and smells lovely. My colour pop for Wednesday was a bespoke Accessorize bracelet that was made for me at London Fashion Weekend in Feb, it has my name engraved on the bangle.
I worked from home before heading off on holiday to Cornwall for a long weekend – guess what, weather prediction stated rain, rain and more rain. I had no need to leave the house until we needed to leave at tea time, so stayed in my post workout Active Wear – promise I showered before pulling on my comfy, ripped MOM Jeans and staple bright floral Zara t-shirt. Comfort won over style for our Cornwall dinner stop over in Salisbury, I’m sorry, not really digging any of these looks, but I was way too stressed throwing bags in the car to think, at least the t-shirt for the journey down was brighter than the rain on the roads.
Early morning and first official day of our Cornwall holiday! We packed up our bags and headed South to Wadebridge near Padstow for a wet and soggy day at Camel Creek Adventure Park. Here we met up with my Aunt and Uncle for a day of rides, animals and an overdue catch up! I am absolutely in love with this Betty Kay London yellow mac, which was an emergency Amazon Prime purchase the night before our holiday! When the sky is grey, this coat certainly isn’t – it’s a gorgeous sunflower yellow, lined with navy nautical stripes. For it’s first outing I teamed it with my black jumper from the night before light blue skinnies and Adidas pumps.
Not the most exciting of week for my wardrobe outing sadly – but when practicality prevailed, I still managed to add pops of colour daily to brighten the looks. I’ve decided not to share the weekend outfits here and will instead include them in my What I Wore on our Staycation post – beware, there is A LOT of Yellow Mac.
